IEEE CASS Seasonal School 2026 on AI and IoT for Smart Agriculture Hosted at ISBAT University

The Faculty of Engineering at ISBAT University is proud to host the IEEE CASS Seasonal School 2026, themed “AI and IoT Technologies for Smart Agriculture in Uganda.”
The programme brings together experts, researchers, academics, students, innovators, and technology enthusiasts to explore the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) in transforming Uganda’s agricultural sector.
With agriculture continuing to play a vital role in Uganda’s economy and livelihoods, emerging technologies offer significant opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, sustainability, and decision-making. The Seasonal School provides a platform for participants to gain knowledge on how intelligent systems, connected devices, sensors, data analytics, and AI-driven solutions can support the development of smart and data-enabled agriculture.

Insightful Keynote Sessions
The IEEE CASS Seasonal School 2026 was inaugurated with insightful keynote sessions addressing important aspects of Uganda’s digital transformation.
The opening sessions featured discussions on:
- AI Transformation in Uganda: Opportunities and Threats
- Building Uganda’s Data Ecosystem for AI- and IoT-Enabled Smart Agriculture

The sessions highlighted the potential of AI to transform industries across Uganda while also examining the challenges, risks, infrastructure requirements, and responsible approaches needed for successful adoption.
Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of developing a strong data ecosystem that can support AI-powered agricultural applications. Reliable data, connected technologies, research collaboration, and skilled professionals are essential for building solutions capable of addressing real-world agricultural challenges.

Advancing Technology-Driven Agriculture
Through the IEEE CASS Seasonal School, participants have the opportunity to engage with emerging technologies and understand their practical application within agriculture.
AI and IoT technologies can contribute to areas such as precision farming, crop monitoring, smart irrigation, soil and environmental monitoring, disease detection, predictive analytics, resource optimization, and automated agricultural systems.
By bringing academia, research, engineering, and technology communities together, the programme encourages knowledge exchange and collaboration toward developing innovative solutions tailored to Uganda’s agricultural environment.

Hosting the IEEE CASS Seasonal School 2026 reflects ISBAT University’s commitment to promoting innovation, research, emerging technologies, and industry-relevant engineering education.
The initiative also provides students with valuable exposure to experts and researchers working in AI, IoT, data technologies, and intelligent systems, helping them understand how engineering knowledge can be translated into solutions with meaningful social and economic impact.
